Pierre et l’étoile

Maelström

Maelström is a natural red wine produced by Domaine Pierre et l’étoile, under the stewardship of winemaker Pierre Regnault in the Languedoc region of France. This wine is crafted exclusively from Carignan grapes sourced from 65-year-old vines, resulting in a wine that is both expressive and well-structured. It offers vibrant red fruit aromas complemented by subtle earthy undertones. On the palate, Maelström presents a harmonious balance of fruitiness and freshness, with notable length and a lively acidity that enhances its drinkability. Serve Maelström slightly chilled at 14–16°C to fully appreciate its aromatic profile and vibrant palate. This wine pairs excellently with grilled meats, hearty stews, and a variety of cheeses.

Wine Profile

🌍

Terroir

The vineyards are located in Assignan, a quaint village in the Hérault department. Situated at an altitude of 270 meters, the vines benefit from a unique microclimate influenced by both the Tramontane winds and proximity to the sea. The soil is predominantly clay-limestone, providing excellent drainage and contributing to the mineral complexity of the wine.

Winemaking Process

Pierre Regnault employs natural winemaking techniques with a focus on minimal intervention. The Carignan grapes are hand-harvested to ensure optimal quality. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, preserving the authentic expression of the terroir. The wine is aged in neutral vessels to maintain its fresh and fruity character. No oenological additives or sulfites are used during vinification, resulting in a pure and unadulterated wine.
